BRUCE F. SIMPSON – Lawyer

Bruce F. Simpson was raised in Pembroke, Ontario. He was employed in the Federal Public Service for four years while attending evening classes at Carleton University. He returned to full-time studies in his third year and received a Master’s in psychology. Bruce attended University of Ottawa’s Law school and graduated magna cum laude in 1974. He also won the Advocacy Shield for his top counselling in mock trials. He won the Gale Cup as the best Moot Court counsel among all Ontario’s law schools.

Bruce has been in private practice since graduating law school. He eventually became a partner at Binks, Chilcott and Simpson until its dissolution after two senior members were appointed to the bench.

Bruce has been a partner with Barnes, Sammon LLP since July 1996. He has practiced generally, but with an emphasis on litigation including criminal, civil and family litigation. Bruce has a special interest in litigation involving individuals who have been mistreated by persons in authority or large companies- particularly insurance companies.

Bruce has been actively involved in his community as a minor hockey league coach and has been quite involved with the John Howard Society. In 2002, he was awarded the Golden Jubilee Medal- an award to recognize outstanding public service. Bruce is a nature man and a family man. He enjoys canoeing, hiking, and generally spending time outdoors.
