Jirina Bulger has deep roots in the legal world, having practiced family law, wills and powers of attorneys and estates for close to 40 years. Having been born in Prague, Jirina speaks Czech and understands Slovak.
Jirina has extensive experience in all areas of family law including custody and access (now decision-making authority and parenting time), child support, spousal support, domestic agreements (cohabitation, marriage and separation agreements), equalization of net family property claims, trust claims, and claims between common law spouses. Jirina focuses on a negotiated and fair resolution of all issues between the parties, whenever possible, as she believes that a settlement out of court is best for the parties and for the children. However, when the situation calls for it, the court process is used.
Jirina has appeared before most levels of court including the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Family Court, the Ontario Divisional Court, the Ontario Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Canada. Along with her then law partner (now retired), William Sammon, Jirina was successful before the Supreme Court of Canada in establishing the correct legal method of pension valuation upon separation.
Jirina taught interviewing at the Bar Admission Course and served on the Board of the John Howard Society and on a condominium board. She enjoys discussing legal issues with her younger colleagues and providing some guidance to them. Jirina is involved in her community by providing support to some of its charities and junior hockey teams.
